Cyanotype is a photographic printing process developed in the mid 1800’s which renders a cyan/blue print. Cyanotype chemistry can be applied to fabrics as well as paper which allows the artist to expand the mediums on which their images are displayed. The topics covered in this one day workshop are: how to mix the chemistry, coating the medium [watercolor paper only in this workshop], proper exposure, processing and washing the print. Also covered are special techniques which produce richer blues and cyans, as well as transform the print into brown tones. Each student will be provided with all required chemistry and 8x10 watercolor sheets.
Cyanotype prints can be created from images shot with film or digital cameras. For those students who shoot with film cameras please bring B/W negatives in one of these formats: 35mm, 120, 4x5, or 8x10. It is IMPORTANT TO NOTE that the Cyanotype prints will be the same size as your negatives. To generate a print that is larger than your film negative, an enlarged digital negative must be created by the instructor prior to the workshop. Just scan the film to create a digital file [Jpeg, grayscale, 300 dpi, max. size 8x10] and email that to the instructor by 03/18/12. To use images shot from a digital camera, enlarged digital negatives must be created by the instructor prior to the workshop. These digital images [Jpeg, grayscale, 300 dpi, max. size 8x10] are to be emailed to the instructor by 03/18/12. ancientmexicans@gmail.com
Cancellation Policy: If the workshop is cancelled due to low enrollment or unforeseen instructor conflict, your workshop fee will be refunded in full. If the student cancels on or before 03/18/12 they will receive a full refund. Cancellations on 03/19/12 or after will not receive any refund.
